The root revolution...and long may it continue.

dec 16, 2010
I find it actually fascinating amongst colourists, how people's opinions are so varied on what they think 'looks good' I am known in my group of close friends and clients as a bit of a blonde queen....we have all these stupid names for the varying shades of blonde/caramel/beige/honey...which are all very amusing to us. Usually 2-3 days before doing a certain friend's hair (she shall remain nameless, client confidentiality and all that!) I am bombarded by what can only be described as a mood board of celebs sporting various shades....OF EXACTLY THE SAME HAIR COLOUR SHE ALREADY HAS! my favourite one of these incidents was when she sent me some pics in black and white....that was an extremely useful colour reference I must say! I personally rock the roots, this is for various reasons...I firstly spend so long doing other peoples hair that I barely have time to address my own, but I am more of a natural hair colour girl myself, what pleases my eye more than anything is seamless colour that blends through from root to tip, that is the stuff my hair dreams are made of. And as my hair has grown over the past couple of years to the length it is now, I haven't ever really had a phase where I'm completely bored of it and thats why I like the rooty look so much, in the summer I had some lighter pieces around the face to lift it a bit, and now we are fully into winter, my natural mousey blonde is taking on a warmer glow which I still love. Roots can be as extreme or as subtle as any client wishes, I have selected a few faces I have substantial hair crushes on (especially Whitney, but shhhh don't tell the others) and it just shows how cleverly placed colour can really minimise application, cost, and time and still get really beautiful results which are less high maintenance. I'll be making a couple of personal wishes for 2011, but will also wish that roots are still acceptable after New Years Eve! And in complete honesty, if they aren't...I will start a petition! EK x
